  3.                            STARTUP INFORMATION
  4.  
  5. The instruction manual may be viewed from the operating system mode by typing
  6. TYPE MANUAL or it may be hard printed by typing COPY A:MANUAL PRN.  The 30
  7. page manual (33 sheets) should be printed immediately and a tractor or pin feed
  8. should be used if available.  Set the printer to 12 characters per inch and
  9. set the 9 1/2" paper as if to print on the first line of the sheet.

  11. To get started with PORTRAC place your system disk in drive A: and boot the 
  12. system.  Replace the system disk with a backup copy of PORTRAC (See page 3 of
  13. the manual).  Type SETSYS and press ENTER to setup the system (See page 29 in
  14. the MANUAL).  Then type PT and press ENTER.  The PORTRAC program will load and
  15. the title block and a statement will appear. Press ENTER and the INTRODUCTORY
  16. MENU appears.

  18. The program contains demonstration files that can later be erased.  To get 
  19. a quick trial look at PORTRAC, follow the procedure below:
  20.     Press  W  at the INTRODUCTORY MENU.  The list of accounts appears.
  21.     Press  1  to select ACCOUNT #1. (The only currently existing account.)

  23.          The MASTER MENU appears.
  24.     Press  4  at the MASTER MENU.  This brings up the SCREENING MENU.
  25.     Press  1  at the SCREENING MENU to screen an investment file.
  26.     Type  S4  and press ENTER to call up the sample file named S4.
  27.     Type  74  and press ENTER to enter a market price of 74 dollars/share.
  28.           The file will be screened and the following message will appear:
  29.     "TO RETURN TO MASTER MENU PRESS ENTER: FOR HARD COPY PRESS 1".

  31. Press ENTER and repeat the process from the MASTER MENU using file P4 instead
  32. of S4.  Different questions will be asked as this is a different type
  33. investment.  You will be asked for the appreciation % instead of market price.
  34.     Type   5  and press ENTER to input 5 percent as the total appreciation.
  35.     Type   1  and press ENTER to indicate it is mortgaged real property.
  36.     Type   120000 and press ENTER to input the purchase price of $120,000.
  37.               The sample file will then be screened.

  39. Then try screening the portfolio.
  40.     Type   4  at the MASTER MENU.     The SCREENING MENU appears.
  41.     Type   2  at the SCREENING MENU.  The PORTFOLIO MENU appears.
  42.     Type   0  at the PORTFOLIO MENU.  The entire portfolio will be screened.
  43.     Type   1  to screen the chart of risks
  44.     Press  ENTER to return to the MASTER MENU.

  46. Then try computing the Internal Rate of Return (IRR) for file S4.
  47.     Type   6  at the MASTER MENU.
  48.     Press ENTER to verify that the files are up to date.
  49.     Type  S4  & ENTER to select the investment file for IRR computation.
  50.     Press  1  to select the present portfolio value for the computation.
  51.     Type the date 09/30/89 and ENTER. (This is the last date on the S4 file)
  52.               The Internal rate of return will be computed and screened.
  53.     Press ENTER then 1 and run it again using file S4 but with today's date.

  55. Then screen the NETWORTH STATEMENT by pressing 7 at the MASTER MENU.

  57. If using a hard disk, follow the instructions for hard disk installation.  Read
  58. at least through page 8 of the manual before creating any files.  Follow
  59. instructions starting on page 9 to create your records.  If a hardcopy of this
  60. README file is desired, turn on the printer and type from the operating system:
  61.                   COPY A:README PRN and press ENTER.
